Probabilistic Scaling Behavior

Home / Open Questions / Probabilistic Scaling Behavior

Background: In weather forecasting, deterministic models are often insufficient for capturing the inherent chaotic nature of the atmosphere, making probabilistic estimates more informative.

Question / Future Work: Investigating the scaling behavior when training or aligning models using objectives that promote probabilistic outputs, such as diffusion objectives or CRPS-based ensemble training, and comparing these scaling behaviors to the deterministic MSE-based scaling observed.
